Exercising Today’s Doubts

Quiet but for the empty rib cage rattle
And the hollow thump of thoughts
Inches away from peace
Before the pseudo-sweet sadist brain
Spits out miles of “what ifs”
Oh how the innocent and ignorant must drop easily into slumber
Such a gift to be oblivious
Fewer worries and unanswerable wonderings
More rested mornings and wide-eyed greetings for the day
Not me,
I remain like the twisted tabby, alley feline
Singing my questions to the moon
Hoping to exhaust today’s queries before tomorrow exercises its own doubts and dreams
